Winter Forecast for Cowlitz County: Longview, Kelso, Kalama, Woodland, Castle Rock, and more

What the Forecast Means for Longview, Kelso, Kalama, Woodland, and Castle Rock

Winter is approaching, and the question on everyone’s mind is simple: what will Mother Nature bring this year?

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), colder-than-normal conditions are expected across the Pacific Northwest, including right here in Cowlitz County. That means communities like Longview, Kelso, Kalama, Woodland, and Castle Rock should prepare for a season that could bring both challenges and opportunities for neighbors to come together.

A Winter That Tests Us

NOAA’s winter outlook highlights that the Pacific Northwest is likely to see below-average temperatures and increased precipitation.

For families in Longview and Kelso, that could mean higher heating bills. For residents in Kalama, Woodland, and Castle Rock, icy roads and storm disruptions may complicate daily life... Power outages.

But for our most vulnerable neighbors... those experiencing homelessness, families with children living in their car, or at risk of becoming homeless due to job loss... this forecast isn’t just about inconvenience. It’s about survival.

  • What YOU can do: Volunteer. Donate. Share the story(s) + data.

We are Cowlitz County strong. We are Kelso. We are Longview.

We are people who look out for one another.  People who shovel a neighbor’s driveway in Castle Rock, bring soup to a friend in Woodland, check in on elders in Kalama, and rally together in Longview and Kelso when times get tough.

This winter, our identity is not defined by the cold... Let's define it by our compassion.

The NOAA forecast reminds us that winter will be colder and wetter than usual. But forecasts don’t define outcomes—our actions do.
